I have a total of 9 years experience in medical eLearning, plus many years experience of educational digital media content production. At the International Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (2021-current) I have worked in eLearning for medical practitioners, LMS management, strategic planning, and project management. At Rdical Departures (1999-2002 full time, 2002-2006 freelance) I worked on medical eLearning for pharmaceutical clients, training sales team, induction training, and interactive case study presentations. In Instinct Media Ltd (self-employed 2006-2020) I worked in media production, educational videos, graphics and resource creation. This is now underpinned with the Certificate in eLearning Instructional Design from the Digital Learning Labs, a university-accredited course, for which I received a distinction.

ISUOG (International Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Worked in eLearning at ISUOG (International Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology) from August 2021 untill present. The role was primarily project management and managing the learning management system (LMS by IMC). But I also made a lot of interactive online courses in Articulate 360 Rise, with some inserted Storyline activities. I also made custom explainer videos and medical illustrations to embed in the eLearning.

Innovation project – Basic Training Online Program: converting a 30hr in-person course into an online self-study interactive course. This also enabled greater learning opportunities for the learners, for example to learn to recognise ultrasound images of fetal organs and whether they are normal or not, through a large number of examples, which was missing from the live course. Previously the training could only be delivered annually in about 5 countries, to a limited number of trainees. In the first few months of release it was accessed in over 100 countries by 4 times the number of previous annual learners. I also integrated ecommerce into the LMS so that we could sell it using ecommerce. This meant that online courses can be offered at a highly subsidised rate for low resource countries, thus supporting our charitable aims too. However we have also found that the course is very popular with non-trainees, and practitioners in the higher income countries, which opens up a new understanding of our members actual needs and desires.

End-to-end implementation of new online learning offer for the organisation:

  • Planned and delivered fully interactive Basic Training Online Program (30 hours)
  • Planned and delivered curriculum of fully interactive Advanced Training Curriculum (over 200 hours)
  • Planned and delivered On Demand courses and events

Radical Departures

Designed and created interactive multimedia e-learning for pharmaceutical clients, such as Astra Zeneca and Novartis, to train sales teams, and for induction training. Worked with a medical writer to create medical eLearning to develop sales teams understanding of oncology, heart disease and fungal infections.

Innovation projects – training for the sales team: my role on this was on the design, gamification, and production. We needed to use gamification and design to make the learning interesting and fun to increase the completion rate. Previous training was delivered in large printed manuals, with large amounts of text. We wanted to include video, imagery and interactivity, and could not deliver it online due to the internet speeds of the time. So we delivered on CD ROM, which downloaded reporting data and sent it to the team leaders, which enabled management to monitor the completion rates and encourage competitive activity in the teams. The sales team feedback was that they found the journey through the learning fun, they enjoyed exploring the content, the high level of interactivity, and the design of the menus and navigation. Due to the success of the completion rates and learner feedback, we made many of these training programmes, some examples can be seen below.

Instinct Media Ltd

Innovation project – Taecanet tool for teachers: a resource to support teachers. This was delivered on CD ROM and installed onto teachers’ laptops, which then allowed for regular updates to be installed. Using this method allowed for a program of media rich content, in particular video training and tracking that would not have been possible online at the time.

Innovation project – Patent Office induction training: to improve induction training. Previously there was often a long waiting time for new employees to get their in-person induction training, which meant productivity and commitment was low at the start of their employment journey. I designed and developed this to celebrate the brand identity, be fun to do on your own, and have the personal touch of hand drawn illustrations and storytelling to increase the completion rates and enjoyment of new staff learners.
